BERNAT Pet Blanket with Everfresh Probiotic Technology

Updated: Apr 9, 2019

There is a lot of rave in the community regarding probiotics and I could never imagine that probiotics can be infused into yarn! What is probiotic? Probiotic typically are live micro-organisms that are beneficial to our every day lives. You can find these probiotics naturally occurring in yogurt and many other fermented food; but recently, we are seeing it infused into supplements and vitamins for specific targeted relief such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome or diarrhea. So, how is probiotic infused into yarn?

According to Everfresh Probiotic Technology, they've infused the fiber with a micro-organism that remains dormant and is only activated upon contact with odour causing bacteria. This means, that when the fiber starts smelling a little off, these micro-organisms will essentially come alive and eliminate the smell!

Now, if micro-organisms are in our fiber, that means, we have to be careful to keep these little ones alive. We know that extreme heat can kill micro-organisms as it causes their enzymes and proteins to break down and die, so this means that we cannot wash the fabric in extreme heat. The warning label asks that the yarn be washed in delicate setting and in water not exceeding 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit). This is important to know for this yarn if we want the Everfresh Probiotic Technology to last as long as we have this yearn!

So, because of this technology, I've decided to choose this yarn for my two huskies, Halley and Nova. I created a towel for them so during feeding times, they don't make a mess on the floor.

This is a pretty creative pattern, you can make the stripes however thick you want.

The best part of the yarn is that you can stitch on decals that make the mat more decorative. Here, I used, Hooked Eco Barbante Solid Gris (picture not the same colour):

I hope you enjoyed this pattern as much as my dog is enjoying his mat
